Thank you for visiting my website! I’m Younghan Lee, a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at University of Hawaii at Manoa. I conduct research in applied microeconomic analysis at the intersection of deep learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and simulations. My research is applied to a wide range of individual heterogeneity which plays an important role in understanding human behavior in economics, and I believe that the heart of economics lies in understanding human choice and decision-making.
I am currently being advised by Professor Sang-Hyop Lee, who serves as my dissertation advisor. Under his guidance, I am conducting economics research that leverages AI and deep learning technologies. My work involves using face recognition to measure physical attractiveness, allowing for an analysis of the beauty premium in dating and marriage markets. Additionally, I am exploring economic dynamics in the dating and marriage markets by creating virtual agents using Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT and simulating their interactions.
Moreover, I work as a Research Assistant at UHERO under the supervision of Dr. Steven Bond-Smith. We are working on a research project titled "Is Hawaii Left Behind?", and we are developing a methodology that incorporates interstate price differences through Regional Price Parities (RPPs) to objectively evaluate Hawaii's income levels and assess economic distress.
